Australian Contemporary Opera Co (ACOCo) Presents Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

“Slick and zany — a tonic for these times.” – The Guardian UK

Award-winning independent company Australian Contemporary Opera Co (ACOCo), kicks off their 2022 season with the Australian premiere of London’s Opera Holland Park smash-hit production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Two performances of this feel-good, family-friendly production will be staged in the beautiful Alowyn Gardens, located in the heart of the Yarra Valley on Sunday 27 February 2022.

Premiering in 2013 and running for five consecutive sell-out annual seasons in London, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is designed to delight adults and children alike.

The witty tale shapes Lewis Carroll’s familiar nonsense into a relatable story that remains true

to the madcap spirit of the classic book. Led by a collection of celebrated Wonderland characters including Alice, White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts and Mad Hatter, along with a chorus of Victorians (folk from the historic era and our state) AND a nine-piece orchestra, the music is an eclectic mix of jazz, musical and opera.

“We have a fabulous cast and team bringing this gorgeous show to Victoria for its Australian premiere,” says ACOCo’s Artistic Director Linda Thompson. “Families will love all the fun and adventure of this staged, costumed contemporary opera — with an engaging and beautiful score and a clever blend of beloved classic literature with modern characters, all brought to life with the original set and costume designs originally created by award-winning UK designer Leslie Travers.”

Alowyn Gardens will be open for ticket holders to enjoy before the 2pm show, and after the 5pm performance. Designed along strong symmetrical lines the beautiful seven acre gardens feature a perennial border, silver birch forest, edible garden and a formal parterre garden, built along 17th century design principles. The 100m long wisteria and rose covered archway leads to a sunken garden and classical fountain.

There will be local produce picnic boxes available for pre-purchase when booking (or bring your own). De Bortoli wine will be available to buy at the event. (No BYO alcohol)

All you need to do is sort your low beach chairs, rugs or bean bags and grab your tickets.

Bookings open 17 December. Gift vouchers are also available.
